Adansi-Fomena (Ash), Dec 7, GNA - A 24-year-old man, who pounds fufu at a chop bar, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by the Fomena Magistrate's Court for defiling a six-year-old girl.
The accused known only as Kwabena alias Cobbie, who hails from Adansi-Anhwiaso, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on December 12. Police Chief Inspector J. K. Kpebbeson told the Court that Cobbie pounds fufu for the mother of the victim.
He said at about 2000hours on October 27 after he had finished pounding the fufu for the day, the accused asked the girl to follow him to his room to collect something for her mother.
Chief Inspector Kpebbeson said the innocent victim obliged and immediately she entered Cobbie's room, he locked the door and forcibly defiled her.
He said, however, that in the process of defiling her, the victim managed to shout and a passer by heard the anguished cry of the girl and, therefore, forced the door open.
Chief Inspector Kpebbeson said on entering the room, the passer by saw the accused lying on the girl and, therefore, went to her rescue.
He said the incident was reported to the girl's family who also reported to the New Edubiase Police but before they could arrest the accused, he fled the town.
A few days later, however, Chief Inspector Kpebbeson said, the Police had a tip-off that the accused had returned and they succeeded in arresting him.
