Kwasi Akumani, 60, a landlord, has been sentenced to seven years in jail by an Aflao Circuit Court for defiling a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced on his own plea.
Akumani had detained and sexually abused the 13-year old victim, a neighbour’s daughter, but was given up by a phone call made by the victim to her brother- in- law using her defiler’s phone.
Mr Stephen Wuni, a Detective Police Inspector of Aflao, told the Court presided over by Yaw Owuahene-Acheampong that on June 4 the victim who had returned from school went to his father’s house at Low Cost, a suburb of Aflao, for her school fees but did not meet him.
Having waited for sometime the victim returned to Atisukope, another suburb of Aflao, where she lives with her mother, but the gates to the house were locked. Mr Wuni said the victim knocked several times but the gates were not opened and Akumani took the victim in to pass the night in his apartment.
He said the victim fell asleep after taking a soft drink offered by Akumani who thereafter defiled the victim and refused to let the victim go the following day.
Mr Wuni said the victim’s call home using Akumani’s phone, whose number was known to her household, prompted her mother to confront Akumani leading to his arrest.
