Tata Govena, a 69-year-old farmer of Kpeyia near Denu, was fined 300,000 cedis or three months in jail in default by the Aflao Circuit Court on Wednesday for inserting an irritant into his wife's vagina after sex and assaulted her when she complained. He said for the past four years the two had been squabbling and decided to live in separate rooms in the same compound. Chief Inspector Oppong said on April 22, last year, Govena and Ameyo attended a funeral in the village and Govena who returned earlier sneaked into Ameyo's bed. He said Ameyo returned to meet her husband on her bed and protested but later upon coaxing reluctantly allowed him to have sex with her. Chief Inspector Oppong said soon after they had finished making love, Govena pushed a powdered irritating substance into his wife's vagina making her to scream. He said Govena beat up his wife when she asked for explanation. Her relations saved her from Govena.
