The Kwabenya Circuit Court has ordered a psychiatric examination of Newel Gavu, the man accused of vandalising the ‘Big Six’ monument at the Airport Roundabout in Accra, according to a report by graphic.com.gh.

On August 31, 2024, the police arrested Gavu for allegedly vandalising the monument and some sign posts at the Airport Roundabout in Accra.

They praised members of the public and the airport security for their vigilance in getting him arrested.

He is expected to reappear in court on September 10, 2024.

The ‘Big Six’ monument honours leaders of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a political party founded by J.B. Danquah in 1947, to advocate for self-government.

These leaders are Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo , J.B. Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, William Ofori Atta, and Kwame Nkrumah.

They were detained by the colonial authorities in 1948 following disturbances that led to the killing of three World War II veterans.
