Tema, Jan. 21, GNA - A 23-year old carpenter at Tema, has been arrested by the Harbour Police for allegedly attempting to murder his nine-year old son after accusing him of stealing his 200,000 cedis. The suspect, Alex Agyimale is said to have tied both hands and legs of his son, Bismarck Agyimale with a rope behind him and hanged him to the ceiling with the body left dangling in the air, locked the door and left for town.

According to the Tema Police Regional Crime Officer, DSP Philip Aleawobu, a Police patrol team on January 15, this year, had information that a boy had been tied and hanged on a ceiling at Community 12. He said the team went there and found the boy hanging and screaming with some parts of the body swollen with a knife beside him. The team then rescued the boy and their investigations later led to the arrest of Agyimale, who admitted hanging the boy as his punishment for stealing his money and preventing him from going out on that day. The suspect, he said, has been charged with attempted murder and would be arraigned before a circuit court in Tema on Monday January 24. He however pleaded with some NGOs and charity homes to consider taking into their care Bismarck and his two-year old brother Desmond who due to the irresponsible behaviour of their father have suffered malnutrition.

DSP Aleawobu also warned parents who think because they had right over their children and could maltreat them to desist from such acts.
