A 32-year-old man, Yaw Atta, has butchered his wife, Adjoa Kumiwaa, over a GHc1 change he asked her to return after giving her GHc5 for supper.

According to Kwame Mantey, an eye witness, Yaw who is a farmer by profession at Assin-Kumasi, gave his wife GHc5 as housekeeping money.

Yaw asked her to use GHc4 as money to prepare supper and reserve the remaining GHc1 for him.

Intending to buy palm wine with the change, Yaw on return from the farm demanded the change from his wife.

According to the eye witness, the wife declined to give the money to him, telling him that she had used all the money to prepare food and that the money did not even suffice.

Yaw Atta, on hearing that the wife had used all the money, got angry and threatened to butcher her with his farm cutlass.

Sensing danger, Adjoa Kumiwaa went in for a stick to defend herself but she could not match the strength of her furious husband.

He butchered her with the cutlass mercilessly.

The near-death incident drew the attention of the public with some men intervening to rescue Adjoa Kumiwaa from being killed.

Sensing danger, Yaw Atta took to his heels to avoid police arrest.

Adjoa Kumiwaa has since been taken to the Interberton Government Hospital in Cape Coast for treatment.

Reports say the issue has since been handed over to the Assin Nyankumasi Police for investigation.
