Accra, June 10, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced a 45 year-old worker with a private security company to 20 years' imprisonment for having a child with his 16 year-old daughter. Laud Ford Mensah, who was charged for incest, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Mrs. Georgina Mensah-Datsa, who presided over the court expressed disgust at action of the accused for fathering the one year-old child of his own daughter and also naming her.
Mensah who pleaded for clemency said: "It was the work of the devil."
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Abavellim prosecuting said Mensah who lives with his five daughters at Agbogba was said to have sexually assaulted the eldest (victim) many times and even continued until she gave birth.
He said Mensah on his arrest on Friday June 6 confessed to having sex with his daughter and admitted being the father of her child who was now a year old.
He said Mensah, who had been divorced for the past eight years, confined his daughter to their home and did not allow her to talk to people.
The prosecution said Mensah named the child Felicia Mensah without the knowledge of his family because he did not want anyone to know about his affair with his daughter.
He said the victim told the police that her father started making advances at her last year and threatened to kill her if she refused to give in to his demand.
He said Mensah resumed advances at her (victim) after the child was born but this time she did not give in and reported her ordeal to the Madina Police.
