Kweku Sekyi, a driver who attempted to offer for sale four pieces of bones suspected to be that of a human being on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
Sekyi, charged with stealing has pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mrs Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, however remanded him into Police custody to reappear on March 21 for further investigations into the matter.
Mr George Asamaning Counsel for Sekyi said the bones were retrieved while Sekyi and four others were removing tree stumps to make way for a building project.
He said Sekyi only brought the bones to Accra to the owner of the land so that a coffin would be bought, while the bones are buried after performing some rites.
According to him, the Police had information that there was a special place at Madina, where human bones were offered for sale and they would like to trace the place.
Superintendent of Police Kofi Blagodzi, who prosecuted the case, said the police were investigating cases that involved the looting of cemeteries.
He said the accused, which hails from Lartey in the Eastern Region, on March 6, this year, offered for sale four prices of bones and was looking for prospective buyers.
Supt Blagodzi said the Police on hearing that lured Sekyi and feigned interest in buying the bones and in the process arrested him.
During interrogation, Sekyi said he and four others were uprooting tree stumps from an old cemetery to make way for a building project and they came across the bones.
The Prosecutor said the bones were being forwarded to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for pathological test.
