Man in court for defrauding three Catholic priests

Cape Coast March 30, GNA- Richmond Twenboa -Kondua a 27 year-old man, was on Wednesday fined 500,000 by the Cape Coast Circuit Court for defrauding three Catholic priests.

Twenboa-Kondua who was convicted on his own plea would be jailed for six months in default.

Prosecuting, Police Chief inspector Hope Azasoo, told the Court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that in October last year, Twenboa -Kondua approached one Father Michael Ocran and told him that members of his former armed robbery gang had threatened to kill him because he decided to part company with them.

He said because he was an ex-convict his family had also rejected him and collected 50,000 cedis from him under the pretext of travelling to his hometown to reconcile with them.

Chief Inspector Azasoo said the accused also went to two other priests and succeeded in defrauding them of a total amount of 120,000 cedis.

He said at 1200 hours on March 25, this year, Twenboa-Kondua, went to one Father Acquah Ghann with the same story but he managed to cause his arrest.

Chief Inspector Azasoo said the accused denied ever telling the priests that he was an ex-convict, but said he only asked for money to enable him start a business. 30 March 05
