Man in custody for accusing a relative of being a witch

Cape Coast, Sept 09, GNA - David Twumasi, a 22-year-old unemployed man who allegedly attacked a female relation on suspicion of killing his mother spiritually and damaged her kitchen has been remanded by a circuit court at Cape Coast.

He pleaded not guilty to unlawful damage and is to re-appear on September 22.

The prosecution told the court on Thursday that Twumasi and the complainant, one Madam Akua Ofoua, are relatives and live in the same vicinity at Jukwa-Mfuom near Cape Coast.

He said Twumasi lost his mother in May and accused Madam Ofoua and her siblings of having killed her spiritually. He attacked her and destroyed a mud structure she uses as a kitchen. John Mensah, a 38-year-old driver, was also remanded for assaulting a pupil teacher at a lorry park.

He pleaded not guilty and would also reappear on September 22. According to the prosecution, on July 27, both Mr Daniel Abakah, the teacher and Mensah joined a queue at the Moree lorry park to board a vehicle.

Mr Abakah later left the queue to stand elsewhere and ran to join the vehicle when it came but this did not go down well with Mensah, resulting in a quarrel between them. Later that same day, the two men met again at the lorry park and without any provocation, Mensah attacked and beat up Mr Abakah. 09 Sept 05
