An Interior Decorator, who was accused of defiling a six- year old girl, was on Wednesday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Emmanuel Adjei was found guilty on the charge of defilement by the Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang Budu.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarah Acquah told the Court that the complainant, the victim’s mother, is a hair dresser residing at La Adjeman in Accra.
Prosecution said the complainant, victim and the convict lived in the same house at La Adjeman.
For the past seven months the victim’s father had been unwell and as such the complainant leaves the victim in the house to cater for her father on Saturdays and Sundays, prosecution said.
DSP Acquah said on February 7 and February 14, the victim refused to stay in the house to cater for her ailing father.
Prosecution said when the complainant questioned her as to why she had declined to stay in the house; she said the convict had on two occasions defiled her.
According to prosecution, victim said Adjei also warned her not to tell anyone else he (the convict) would beat her.
Complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit and a medical form was issued to the victim.
Prosecution said later Adjei was arrested by the Police and in his caution statement he denied the offence.
