Abdul Mohammed, a 30-year-old miner has been remanded in prison custody to reappear on July 29, for allegedly killing a pregnant woman and using her body parts for rituals.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command told the Ghana New Agency that the suspect met the woman, Amina Mahamud at Jantutu, a community in the East Gonja District on her way for antenatal services at Yeji.
He said Mohammed, who was a native of Abomasi, gave the pregnant woman a lift on the motorbike and in the middle of the journey, the suspect entered the bush with the pregnant woman and cut her with cutlass killing her instantly.
ASP Tetteh said after killing her, the suspect then removed the deceased clitoris and left the body in the bush.
He said the suspect upon arrest by the police, admitted committing the crime in his caution statement and explained that he had used the parts to fortify himself for mining.
ASP Tetteh said a search team discovered the body and had since deposited it at the morgue of the Saint Mathias Hospital at Yeji for autopsy.
