Man murdered in Koforidua; one suspect on bail with another on prison remand

One person has been remanded into prison and another cautioned and granted Police bail for allegedly murdering a 42-year-old man at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

Teye Numo and Daniel Tse were arrested based on police intelligence. Numo was subsequently arraigned on conspiracy and murder, but his alleged accomplice, Tse, was granted police enquiry bail after he was cautioned with abetment of crime.

Numo is expected to appear again before the Koforidua District Court on June 4.

Autopsy report indicated the deceased “died as a result of asphyxiation and ligature strangulation,” Eastern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenzer Tetteh told 3news.com correspondent, Yvonne Neequaye.

“Police investigation ongoing and we hope to get more persons connected [to the case] arrested and brought to book,” he said Wednesday.

What happened?

A food vendor, Janet Otubeah from Adweso in Koforidua discovered the body of the deceased at her joint situated at Ghateco School near Galloway traffic light on May 11 at about 6:30am.

She reported to the Police that he found the body of the deceased, who was later identified as Suley Nyontator, lying beside a motor tricycle with rice sack in his hands.

Police investigators from Adweso were dispatched to the scene. Investigators found saliva coming from the mouth.

Thorough inspection made on the body showed marks of assault on his left elbow and blood oozing from his right ear. There were similar marks of assault on his neck and legs, the prosecutors said.

Investigators say they suspected the man was tied up by unknown persons. Evidence was taken from the scene and the body taken to the Koforidua Regional Hospital where he was officially confirmed dead.

Evidence taken from the scene by the police included rope, pieces of PVC pipes, sticks and sack.
