Cape Coast, Aug. 27, GNA - John Biney, alias Kwame Tawiah, on Thursday stunned a circuit court in Cape Coast with confession that he carried an

eight-year-old girl home after defiling her because she could not walk properly.

The 20-year-old driver's mate, who was charged with defilement, pleaded guilty but told the court that family members of the girl forced him to admit the offence.

The court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare-Nyako, entered a plea of not guilty for Biney and remanded him into prison custody to reappear on Tuesday, August 31.

Chief Inspector Francis Ockom told the court that on 19 August at about 19 hours, the victim who lives in the same area with Biney at Ogokrom, near Saltpond, went to play with her friends.

The prosecution said accused lured the girl into a coconut plantation and had sex with her and when he realized that the girl could not walk, he carried her on his shoulders to her house.

Chief Insp. Ockom told the court that Biney warned his victim not to disclose the matter to anyone or else she will die.

The prosecution said the following day, the victim's older brother saw blood stains in the girl's dress and informed their grandmother about it.

Chief Insp. Ockom said the grandmother sent the girl to the Saltpond Police Station where the victim narrated her ordeal to the Police.

He said a medical report indicated that the victim had been defiled and the case was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Cape Coast.
