Man shot by fleeing robbers dies

Keli Dodzi, 43, a civilian, who was allegedly shot in the abdomen by suspected armed robbers he and a security team were pursuing last week Tuesday, October 27, this year at Ziorme, near Aflao, has died of his injuries.

According to an Aflao police sources, Dodzi, married with children, died on Friday at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he was transferred to.

The five robbers, about 0500 hours last Tuesday invaded the residence of a business woman, who they robbed of valuables at gunpoint and finally fled across the lagoon on the arrival of a military and police patrol team.

The deceased and other civilians in the neigbourhood joined in the pursuit of the robbers, who then exchanged gunshots with the security in the area near the DIAMOND Cement Factory, during which he was shot.

He was transferred from the Ketu South Hospital at Aflao to the Korlebu Teaching Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Kwabla Bikor, 22, one of the robbers who was arrested, with three of the complainant’s seven stolen cellular phones found on him, had since been jailed 28 years on his own plea.

He would be brought before the court again on the second charge of attempted murder in relation to the shooting of the deceased, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bikor’s accomplices, named as Bible, Malandi and two Fulanis, names not available, absconded with the Pump Action and AK-47 guns they were armed with and are still on the run.
