Three persons were on Wednesday shot by unknown gunmen, leaving one dead in the Bawku municipality.
The Victims, Mr Sumaila Seidu, a 45 years old man, died while his wife, Madam Rukaya Sumaila and a 60 year old watchman sustained injuries and are being treated at the Bawku Presbytarian hospital.
The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Kaletse Tefutor, who disclosed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bawku said the assailants attacked at about 02:00 hours on Wednesday morning.
Mr Tefutor said the course of the attack had not been established but the police were investigating to bring the perpetrators to book.
He said taking the law into ones hands was not the best remedy to solve problems and that there was the need for residents in the area to remain responsible and always channel their grievances through the law courts, which was the surest and safest way to solve problems without any rancour.
Mr Tefutor hinted that the police was on the look out to ensure that miscreants who take the law into their hands were brought to order and called on residents to remain calm because the security was on the ground to ensure their safety.
He urged the people to build trust in the security operating in the area so as to enable it work with confidence and create an enabling environment for the growth of socio-economic activities in the municipality and its environs.
The Police Commander commended the traditional authorities, religious groups, and other stakeholders for the part they were playing in maintaining peace in the area
Meanwhile the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue in Bawku for autopsy.
