The Asokwa Circuit Court has sentenced 32-year-old, Abdul Munaf Lawal, to 35 years imprisonment with hard labour for defrauding by false pretenses.
According to graphic.com.gh, Lawal’s conviction stems from a case reported on July 27, 2025, in which he allegedly took $50,000 from the complainant under the guise of converting the amount into its Ghana cedi equivalent.

However, after receiving the money, he failed to honour the agreement and subsequently absconded.
Following extensive investigations, Lawal was arrested in Accra on June 27, 2025, in connection with a similar offence.
He was later transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigation.
He was charged and arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Fred Obikyere.

Initially, Lawal pleaded not guilty but was remanded into police custody.
However, on September 3, 2025, he changed his plea to guilty.
During the proceedings, the prosecution revealed that Lawal had a prior conviction and had previously served a 24-month sentence for stealing.
This was disclosed in a statement by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
