Man stabbed in fight in Bronx not Ghanaian – Consulate General of Ghana in New York

The Consulate General of Ghana in New York, USA, has dismissed report suggesting that a black man who was stabbed in a fistfight in the Bronx over the weekend is a Ghanaian citizen.

The Consulate also denied reports that the stabbed victim who appeared in a video currently in circulation is dead.

The Consul General, Prof. Samuel Amoako, and the Information Officer, Frederick Ameyaw on Monday, August 19, 2019, visited the scene of the incident, the 46th Police Precinct where the case was reported and St. Barnabas Medical Center, where the victim is currently hospitalized.

“The Consulate-General wishes to respectfully advise that, the public and the media desist from making hasty conclusions in matters of this nature, and rather contact the Ghana Consulate for further clarifications.

"The Ghana Consulate in New York would like to assure Ghanaians that their well-being is their priority and will always avail itself of the highest consideration on matters concerning them,” a statement issued by the Information Section/Consulate General of Ghana, New York read in part.

Below is a copy of the statement;

1. The Consulate General of Ghana in New York, over the weekend received notifications of a man believed to be a Ghanaian citizen and appeared to have been stabbed during an altercation that ended in fist fight in the Bronx, New York.

2. Today, August 19, 2019, the Consul General, Prof. Samuel Amoako, and the Information Officer, Frederick Ameyaw, visited the scene of the incident, the 46th Police Precinct where the case was reported and St. Barnabas Medical Center, where the victim is currently hospitalized.

3. The Consulate-General can confirm the following:

That the stabbed victim who appeared in the video currently in circulation is not dead; and

That it is established he is not a Ghanaian citizen as initially purported.

4. The Consulate-General wishes to respectfully advise that, the public and the media desist from making hasty conclusions in matters of this nature, and rather contact the Ghana Consulate for further clarifications.

5. The Ghana Consulate in New York would like to assure Ghanaians that their well-being is their priority and will always avail itself of the highest consideration on matters concerning them.
