The Kumasi-Based Gender-Violence Court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu, has sentenced a 66-year old man to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a minor.

Antwi Gyeabour was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the court that the incident happened at Asonomaso, in the Kwabre East District, on July 24, at about 1900 hours.

The victim, aged 12, had gone to ease herself at a public facility and was returning to the house, when Gyeabour, who had been working as a security man at a private basic school, lured her into one of the classrooms and defiled her.

After satisfying his sexual urge, he gave her GH¢ 1.00, and sent her away with a stern warning never to tell anybody about her ‘traumatic ordeal.’

The prosecution said the victim kept things to herself but after some days, the father noticed a change in her disposition.

She also had a difficulty walking so he decided to probe into what might have gone wrong with her.

When she revealed the cause of the problem a formal report was, consequently, made to the Police and the convict was arrested.

Doctors who treated her confirmed that the girl had been defiled.
