Asamankese, Feb. 06, GNA - The Asamankese District Manager of Fereday Cocoa Purchasing Company, Kwadwo Sammy, has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit court charged with stealing 100 bags of dried cocoa beans valued at 6,037 Ghana cedis. He pleaded guilty with explanation and was granted a 7,000 Ghana cedi bail with two sureties to reappear on February 20. Police Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that about a month ago, the Akyem Oda Manager of Fereday Cocoa Purchasing Company fell ill and Sammy was asked to convey 100 bags of dried cocoa beans from Oda to Asamankese. Sammy conveyed the cocoa, valued at 6,037 Ghana cedis but sold it to a purchasing Clerk at Suhum for 4,300 Ghana cedis on January 23. The prosecutor said the next day, a Director of the Company decided to pay a surprise visit to Sammy's depot. It was then detected that Sammy had sold the cocoa he collected from Oda without Management's knowledge. A report was made to the police and Sammy was apprehended and he admitted the offence. When the presiding judge, Mr Kofi Akrowiah asked Sammy how long he had worked with the Company, he replied that he had been on the job for two years. Mr Akrowiah then advised that Companies and Organizations should probe the backgrounds of people they employ.
