Manager sends SOS to save Ghana Red Cross Society from collapse

The Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) for the Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions has complained of the lack of resources which is gradually killing the GRCS in the three regions.

The situation was explained in the fact that the country does not value the activities of the GRCS, which, in fact, is really helping the country in various ways.

Mr. Solomon Gbolo Gayoni, Regional Manager, made the disclosure when his outfit and the Asutifi South District National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) jointly embarked on a day’s workshop for some volunteers at the community centre to train them on how to manage disaster issues, and the manner first aid ought to be given to victims.

He has, therefore, appealed to the government, companies, religious bodies and individuals to come to the aid of the GRCS to avert its collapse.

According to him, the training, which was organised for 300 people from the district, recorded only 10 people due to lack of funds for the workshop, even though the GRCS is supposed to get representatives throughout the country to tackle relevant cases related to its mandate, but for lack of adequate resources and funds.

He revealed that he and his secretary constitute the secretariat for the three regions “the people of Ghana have totally neglected.”

Mr. Gayoni added that currently, the vehicle at his disposal is outmoded, to the extent that it is unable to move to some areas as expected when distress calls come.

He explained that in some countries the people are constantly ensuring that the Red Cross functions well, by providing all the needed items and funds to the society for their own benefit.

“If Ghana takes Red Cross serious, deaths recorded from motor accidents and disasters will be reduced,” Solomon revealed.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to see the Red Cross as their own and be part of it, adding that once one becomes a member, there are several benefits one derives from it, and also helps you save lives before, during and after incidents.

Mr. Gayoni pleaded with women to be more involved in the activities and operations of the GRCS.
