Maverick Assin Central lawmaker, Hon. Kenedy Agyapong, has revealed that the Mr. Ben Ephson, managing editor of the Daily Dispatch, had ruined a plan to assassinate him a few years ago.

According to the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Ephson was approached by an informant who alleged to have had information regarding a plot to kill the New Patriotic Party legislator, and asked Mr. Ephson to publish a story to that effect.

Instead of publishing the story, Mr. Ephson went ahead and informed the then Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan, of the insidious plan.

Then IGP Alhassan subsequently organised a security detail to protect Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong made his revelations in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen. Mr. Ephson, who was commenting on the same show, concurred with the Assin Central legislator saying, “This account is true.” Said “Through our journalistic work, we get a lot of information from informants.

One of them approached me and told me that some persons have plotted to assassinate Ken, and, so, I should do a story like that but I decided not to do that story. Instead, I informed the then-IGP, Mohammed Alhassan, about it.

I did not even tell Kennedy himself about the issue because I knew how he was going to react to such news. So I handed over the informant to the IGP and left it there.

“The matter later went to court and the police wanted to take credit for foiling such an assassination, but the informant told the court it wasn’t the police but that I foiled it."
