Manhyia to withdraw reps to pave way for new KMA Presiding Member

The Assembly Man for Fankyenebra, Hon James Nana Prempeh, has disclosed that as part of far advanced plans by the Kumasi Traditional Council to get Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly a Presiding Member, Manhyia will withdraw four of its members from the assembly to introduce fresh representatives from whom one will be put forth for confirmation as the Presiding Member. He was speaking to Somtuaka Kombian, the host of Day Break Kapital this morning.

“We have five representatives from Manhyia and the candidate to be officially announced is not part of the five; what it means is that heads must roll. what Manhyia has decided to do is that they will drop all reps from Manhyia except Nana Amoamanhene, because of his special responsibilities in connection with some ongoing projects, and they will introduce a new set of representatives from whom they will choose one for confirmation by assembly” he said.

He also explained that the assembly did not officially petition Manhyia but that the chiefs, inspired by the development needs of Kumasi, decided to intervene, which is the reason why they called series of meetings with the factions that culminated to the Saturday meeting.

When asked to confirm speculations that Nana Amakomhene is the likely candidate, he declined mentioning names but gave a hint that points to Amakomhene. “The candidate who is coming is neutral and does not belong to any camp; he is currently not at the assembly but has ever been there and understands the job. If it happens to be Nana Amakomhene, I will be glad; I know him personally, he is a man of principle and perfectly fit for the job” he noted.

He also explained that during their meeting with the Abrenpong who represent the Ashanti King on the Kumasi Traditional Council, chaired by Bantamahene and Asafohene, on Saturday 8th October, government appointees did not attend and were represented by the regional minister and his deputy who pledged to compromise the stands of the appointees to endorse the new candidate.

Hon James Nana Prempeh also dismissed fears that some of the members may sabotage Kumasi Traditional Council’s proposal and bring their efforts to naught, saying; “the Regional Minister promised and assured the traditional council during the Saturday meeting that the government appointees will not disappoint them.”
