Kasoa (C/R) July 13 GNA-The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and some opinion leaders of Kasoa have appealed to the Electoral Commission to create more Electoral Areas in the town to enhance its development and also ensure the success of the election in the area. The District Chief Executive for the Area, Mr. Solomon Abam-Quaye, Mr. Daniel Kwarteng, Mr. Francis Arthur and Dr. Abraham (rpt. Dr. Abraham) the opinion leaders made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Kasoa on Tuesday.

According to them most people at Kasoa have decided to boycott the forthcoming district Assembly Election if more electoral areas are not created to facilitate the development of the town.

They said the present situation where Kasoa with a total registered voters of 41,800 is being represented by one elected assembly member at the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, was not the best as it would not contribute meaningfully towards the development of the town. They pointed out that the Effutu Area that has 39,000 registered voters has 17 elected assembly members and wondered how Kasoa with a higher registered voter number rather has only one elected assembly member.

"Kasoa is expanding so rapidly daily that required more assembly members from more electoral areas to handle the increasing workload of the town".

The sixty-one-member assembly is made up with 17 members each from the Awutu and Effutu Areas, 19 appointees and 8 from the Senya Area. Filing of nominations to the district assemblies would close by the end of the month for the elections to take place next month. An official of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Office of the Electoral Commission, when contacted refused to comment on the matter but simply said that he has no information about the creation of additional electoral areas at Kasoa.

Meanwhile, the DCE in another interview with the GNA said his office was writing officially to the Electoral to inform them about the peoples' decision and the need to create more electoral areas at Kasoa.
