Many people celebrate NPP victory in Kwahu districts

Mpraeso, Dec.10 GNA- A cross-section of people in the Kwahu South and West districts have expressed their joy about the peaceful elections held on Tuesday.

They said the incident-free elections in many parts of the country showed the improved growth and development of the country's democratic process.

The people, who were speaking to the GNA in interviews at Nkawkaw and Mpraeso on Thursday, also commended both the NPP and the NDC for their performance in both elections, which the said helped to strengthen the democratic dispensation in the country.

A retired Information Officer, Mr Lawrence Darko, said the performance of the NDC was assurance that its parliamentarians would put the NPP government on its toes.

An independent candidate who contested the Nkawkaw seat but lost, Mr Seth Adjei Baah, claimed, "though the results in the constituency were not the true reflection of the wishes of the electorate, yet I will accepted it in good faith."

He said apart from minor incidents at certain parts of the country, it was generally peaceful, with a greater percentage of the populace deciding to retain President Kufuor.

The incumbent MP for Nkawkaw, Mr Okerchiri Adusah who retained the seat, commended supporters of the parties for the peaceful elections.

He said the acceptance of the results by the opposition parties showed a major development in the country's democracy and urged all Ghanaians to bury their differences now, irrespective of their political affiliation.

A former national chairman of the NDC and also a parliamentary candidate for Mpraeso, Mr Kwaku Baah, alleged that there were irregularities, intimidation and blackmail of NDC supporters in some parts of the constituency.

According to him, some NDC supporters were threatened that their cocoa farms would not be sprayed under the mass cocoa spraying exercise if they voted against the NPP.

The Kwahu-South District Chief Executive, Mr Raymond Osafo-Djan, urged the people to forget whatever went wrong during the electioneering campaign and unite as one people to move the nation forward.
