at their land tenure system

Odumase-Krobo, Sept. 18, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Yaw Barimah, has suggested to the chiefs of Manya Krobo Traditional Area to take a second look at their land tenure system with a view to releasing land for commercial mango farming. He explained that mangoes grow well in the area and their cultivation could form the raw material base for the development of agro-industry to provide employment for the youth of the area. Mr. Barimah made the suggestion when he called on the Manya Krobo Traditional Council to formally introduce himself and his deputy, Ms Susana Mensah, to the members of the Council on Friday at Odumase-Krobo.

He called for co-operation between the traditional authorities and the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council to ensure the development of the area.

Mr. Barimah expressed his appreciation to the Manya Krobo Queenmothers Association on their role in supporting the anti-HIV/AIDS programme to help contain the spread of the HIV virus in the country and caring for orphaned HIV/AIDS victims. He reminded them that it was the Busia Government that extended electricity and potable water to Odumase, constructed the Atua Government Hospital and many of the feeder roads in the Upper Manya area.

Mr Barimah gave the assurance that he and his deputy had come to continue with the development tradition which was established during the Busia era.

The Manya Krobo District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. David Asare Sackitey, advised all to bury their political differences and unite to pursue the common agenda of bringing smiles on the faces of the electorate in the area.

He explained that political parties would come and go but the people of Manya Krobo and their descendants would always remain as one ethnic group with common interest, aspirations and challenges. Mr. Sackitey said the District Assembly was liaising with Plan Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization, to draw a comprehensive programme aimed at preparing final year students of Junior Secondary Schools in the district to help improve their performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE).

The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, appealed to the Regional Minister to ensure that the new District Chief Executive (DCE) was settled at his official residence to enable him to perform his protocol functions there.
