Following the tragic microlight helicopter crash that landed at the TMA Daycare, Site 18, in Tema Community One on Monday, March 16, 2026, school officials have shared how they managed to evacuate the children and prevent injuries during the incident.

In an interview with GhanaWeb on March 16, 2026, a daycare official narrated that most of the children were asleep when the incident occurred.

She explained that evacuating them was difficult because many were asleep, so they had to be dragged on the floor to quickly move them away from danger.

Deputy Defence Minister gives details of tragic Tema helicopter crash

“When the helicopter crashed, most of the children were asleep. Those who were awake became frightened and started running. We had to hold the hands of those who were asleep and drag them on the floor outside the school building.

“Some people who were close really helped us. They did very well, and may God bless them because they came out to support us like ordinary citizens,” she said.

She further shared that the sudden crash left many of the children traumatised.

“I don’t think I will be able to sleep because we didn’t even see it coming. All we saw was that it had crashed on the ground and the intense heat that came with it. The children who were not asleep didn’t know where to go. They were very scared.

“The school building itself was not affected, but because the school belongs to the assembly, I don’t think we will come to work tomorrow. We have about 65 children in the school,” she added.
