Marine police officer commits suicide at Osagyefo Barge in Jomoro

Sergeant Mohammed Fusieni of Marine Police Unit has allegedly shot and killed himself with an AK47 Assault Rifle at Osagyefo Barge, Effasu near Half Assini in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.

The incident happened Sunday, March 24 about 0800 hours at the police bungalow at Effasu-Mangyea in the Municipality, where four officers were on duty at the power barge lodge.

These four Marine Police Officers were tasked to protect the Osagyefo Barge.

Confirming the incident to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, the Jomoro District Police Commander, DSP Zenge said the late Sergeant Mohammed Fusieni after returning from duty to rest at the police bungalow at Effasu-Mangyea, sent Lance Corporal Iddrisu Kafando Muntari to buy him a shaving blade.

According to the Police Commander, Lance Corporal Muntari only returned to find the late Sergeant Fusieni lying in a pool of blood with AK47 Assault Rifle in the room.

He said when they received the sad news they quickly called on the Crime Scene Management Team from Sekondi and Marine Police from Takoradi and visited the scene with the Half Assini Police.

"We visited the scene to find the body lying in a supine position in a pool of blood dead with the AK47 Assault Rifle beside his legs", he confirmed.

DSP Zenge also added they found a written note beside him which has his wife's and two other phone numbers on it and a short statement.

The written note reads; "I cannot take this disgrace, something I don't know with".

He revealed that late Sergeant Mohammed Fusieni (with service number 37400) and Lance Corporal Iddrisu Kafando Muntari (with service number 51484) based at Marine Police Station at Aiyinasi in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

DSP Zenge said after inspection and photographs by the Crime Scene Experts removed the body to be deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy.

He added that they are investigating what may have led to the incident.

Speaking to GhanaWeb about whether the late Sergeant Mohammed Fusieni was part of the four Marine Police Officers who are currently under interdiction for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets from the Osagyefo Power Barge last month, the District Police Commander categorically denied his involvement.

"DSP was the late Sergeant Fusieni part of the four Marine Police Officers under interdiction, no he was not part of the four officers, he was sent to the Barge after the alleged theft incident which is currently under investigation so let me put on record that he was not part, we don't know why he wrote that written note and we are going to investigate it", he clarified.

The four Marine Police Officers and other civilians who are currently under interdiction for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets from the Osagyefo Power Barge situated at Effasu Mangyea in the Jomoro Municipality are; Lance Corporal Peter Zator, Lance Corporal Ibrahim Mohammed, Joseph Baidoo, Abdullai Issah and Usif Sulley, Alhassan Sadick (Driver).

The late 45-year-old Sergeant Mohammed Fusieni left behind a wife and three children.
