Marital rivalry among female teachers is a threat to education

Nkawie (Ash), June 20, GNA- Mrs Diana Appiah, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education has observed that the increased reported cases of marital rivalries and conflicts among female teachers is a threat to quality education delivery in the country. She cautioned the teachers to desist from having immoral affairs with their colleague's partners to avert disrespect and hostile attitudes from the society.

Mrs Appiah made the assertion when the Ashanti regional executive of the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Society (GNAT-LAS) interacted with over 100 members of the Nkawie community on Tuesday. The interaction was aimed at assessing the performance of the teachers, discuss and find solutions to their problems to strengthen their activities.

Mrs Appiah expressed concern about the attitude of some female teachers who leave the classrooms to patronize praying and healing centres. This, she described as a serious violation of their professional principles and ethics and charged them to desist from such unhealthy acts.

Mrs Appiah entreated teachers not to promote only academic knowledge but also help the children by imparting moral values and discipline. Miss Beatrice Nsafoah, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of GNAT-LAS, regretted that many teachers were ignorant about the functions and responsibilities of GNAT and the Ghana Education Service (GES), which she noted, had made some teachers apathetic towards the association's activities.

She pointed out that it was the responsibility of the female teachers to nurture their students to become productive to the society. Miss Nsafoah admonished the teachers to lead lives worthy of emulation and refrain from acts that would not only ridicule their personality but also the profession. 20 June 07
