Tepa (Ash), July 4, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano North district office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in concert with the District Directorate of Education and the Tepa police last Tuesday halted an impending marriage between a 15-year-old primary five girl and a 20-year-old farmer of Achina village near Tepa. The families of the girl, Zentu Isaka, a pupil of Akrofoso local authority primary school and that of her fianc=E9, Bashiru Yakubu, will sign an undertaking on Thursday at the district office of CHRAJ to abide by a decision to allow the girl to complete at least basic school before marriage.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Tepa on the issue, Mr Anthony Aduku Aidoo, the District Director of CHRAJ, said following a tip-off that a marriage ceremony involving the girl was to take place last Tuesday, he, together with the police and the District Girl-Child Education Co-ordinator rushed to Akrofoso to ascertain the truth. He said when they got to Akrofoso, the team met the family of the girl who confirmed the story and with the help of Nana Osei Kwaku, Krontihene of the town, Mr Kwame Sarfo, chairman of the unit committee and some Muslim leaders, advised the family to stop the marriage.
