Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed confidence in the Special Prosecutor and called on Ghanaians to give him the needed support and time to effectively deliver on his mandate, ABC News Ghana can report.

Speaking at a public lecture organised by OccupyGhana and the Audit Service to commemorate the landmark judgement by the Supreme Court in a case between Occupy Ghana versus Attorney-General, Dr Bawumia indicated that government has a lot of confidence in the Special Prosecutor’s ability to save the country of millions of cedis as the Akufo-Addo government intensifies its fight against corruption.

He said given the fact that it took the country more than 60 years to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor, it was only fair that Ghanaians gave the occupant of the office, Martin Amidu, the needed space and support to do his work. The Vice President said Mr Martin Amidu will for instance need more time to put together a team that will help him deliver on the job.

“This is an institution that is very very needed and it is not an institution that can just stand up and start off the blocks but he is taking his time putting his team together and we are beginning to see him moving,” he said.

“It is an institution not for today but for today and tomorrow. We haven’t had it for 60 years after independence and we are now putting this major institution together which we have a lot of confidence in the special prosecutor and I believe that Ghanaians and the public will be a major beneficiary of the work of the special prosecutor,” he added.
