A circuit court in Accra on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old mason to three years imprisonment for inserting his fingers into the vagina of a five-year-old girl. Bright Abudey charged with indecent assault pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah said the complainant is a trader residing at Tabora Alhaji with the victim aged five and granddaughter of the complainant.
The prosecutor said both the complainant and the convict lived in adjacent houses and that the victim had been going to the Abudey’s house to play. ASP Acquah said on December 24, 2011, the complainant said she travelled to Obo-Kwahu with the victim to visit her mother.
The following day when the complainant was bathing the victim, she detected that there was blood stains in the victim’s pant and nightwear. ASP Acquah said the complainant asked the victim as to why her pant was stained with blood and she mentioned the suspect as the one who inserted his fingers in into her vagina before travelling to Obo-Kwahu.
A complaint was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, Accra and a police medical form was issued to the complainant to send victim to the hospital for examination and treatment. Later Abudey was arrested, the prosecutor said.
