Mason sentenced to 12 years in jail

Tema, Feb. 17, GNA - A 21-year old mason who defiled a 14-year old girl until she became unconscious has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment in hard labour by a Tema Circuit Court.

The accused Abubakari Fuseini pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was sentenced on his own plea.

Inspector Teye Martey told the court that the victim lived with her mother who operated a drinking bar at Ashaiman, in the same area with Fuseini.

He said on February 9, this year, Fuseini asked the victim to collect some coca cola bottles from him to her mother. Fuseini then locked the door, tied the mouth and neck of the victim and forcibly had sex with her until she became unconscious. According to the prosecutor, seeing the condition of the victim, Fuseini rushed to the victim's mother who was then searching for her and told her that the victim visited him in his room and was lying on his bed.

The victim was rushed to the Hospital and a report was made to the Police and Fuseini was arrested. Fuseini however, denied the facts of the case and said the victim came to his room on that day and said she was tied and needed a place to rest.

According to him the victim rather invited him to sleep with her and later asked him to buy her bread and water but he only returned and found him fast asleep.
