Information gathered by this reporter indicates that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ellembele constituency of the Western Region is reaping from a wave of mass defections that have hit the opposition New Patriotic Party and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the constituency.

The defectors, numbering about four hundred and twenty (420) comprising both party members and executives have declared their support for the sitting MP, Hon Emmanuel Kofi Buah. According to the defectors, they have been convinced with the good works of the incumbent Member of Parliament within his first term and have no other option but to give him their support to continue with his good work. A former member of the CPP communication team in the constituency, Mr. Armstrong Quiaqcoo, confirmed this in an interview with an Axim based radio station Ankobra FM a few days ago. He noted that the CPP in its current position lacks the capacity and men who will lead the party to win power in the 2012 elections. “Am fed up with the party’s current internal wrangling which is spearheaded by its chairperson who claims to have owned and inherited it as a family assert and would not allow anyone to play with it,” he lamented.

He added that one of the numerous reasons for his defection was as a result of the tyrannical and dictatorship leadership style of the party’s chairperson, Madam Christina Samia Yaba Nkrumah, saying her presence in the party, instead of uniting members is rather bringing division.

Mr. Quiaqcoo lamented over the sudden departure of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom from the CPP to form the Progressive People’s Party (PPP). The New Patriotic Party (NPP) deputy Youth Organizer in the constituency, Abeiku Simpson, also known as Ricky Nash, declared his support for the sitting MP for his efforts to raise the image of the constituency into a very enviable one in area. He lashed-out at the former MP, Mr. Freddy Blay, whom he claimed was a “selfish and greedy politician who came to amass wealth for him and family during his term to the detriment of the people of Ellembele,” adding that the NPP’s parliamentary hopeful, Wilmot Kwesi Bonzo, who was once Freddy Blay’s aide, lacks the credibility to lead the people and called on the people to deny him the opportunity.

On her part, the Constituency Women Organizer of the NPP, Miss Sarah Mensah, said that she was overwhelmed with the massive developmental projects that have sprung up in the area within Mr. Kofi Buah’s first term as the MP.

She said “I was politically blind to have joined both the CPP and later to the NPP,” and encouraged her other followers to consider campaigning and voting for Hon Kofi Buah in the upcoming December parliamentary polls.

Other executive members who rooted for the candidature of Mr. Kofi Buah were Mr. Jaberz Mensah and a branch chairman of the Ayinase NPP, Mr. Isaac Mensah. The MP was recently hailed by the people of the Nzemaland for his efforts in bringing rapid development to the area. He was also endorsed by the delegates during the party’s primaries through popular acclamation.
