Matthew Ayeh re-elected as NDC Prestea Huni-Valley Secretary

Mr. Matthew Ayeh has maintained his position as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency of the Western Region.

The party held its constituency executive elections on Saturday, 2 June, 2018 in almost all the constituencies across the country.

At the end of keenly contested election held at Bogoso on Saturday, June 23, 2028, Mr. Matthew Aye emerged victorious polling highest votes of 1,064 to beat his close contestants Mr. Iddrisu S. Mohammed who had 377 votes and Mr. Justice Amankrah also polled 83 votes.

Mr. Michael Gbedemah, the incumbent Chairman managed to poll 689 votes but lost to Mr. Karim Salifu who polled 801 votes.

Speaking to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent after the elections, the Secretary expressed his profound appreciation to the delegates for voting massively for him to retain his seat.

He said his victory is not only a victory for him but a victory for NDC party as whole and therefore called on all the losers to come onboard for victory 2020.

Mr. Ayeh who is the CEO for Trinity FM at Bogoso has called for an end to politics of personal acrimony and internal wrangling, which would only go to tarnish the image of the Constituency and the party.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to all party faithfuls in the area including the contestants to forge ahead in peace and unity and work hard to win the seat in 2020 elections.

The NDC lost the Prestea Huni-Valley seat to Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi of NPP in 2016 parliamentary elections.

According to him, the party's major challenge was how to recapture the Prestea Huni Valley parliamentary seat in 2020, "All efforts must be marshalled to wrestle it from the NPP in 2020".

He pleaded his commitment to connect with the grassroots in order to build a united front to win back the seat and increase the presidential votes in 2020.

"I will make sure that we connect frequently with the grassroots in order to build a united and formidable base for the party to recapture power in 2020", he assured.

In all, 1509 delegates voted for 34 candidates that contested 15 vacant positions in the Constituency which was supervised by Mr. Joshua Ofori Prempeh, the District Director of Electoral Commission (EC) in the Prestea-Huni Valley.

The poll witnessed 182 spoiled ballot papers and this is highest spoiled ballot papers in the Western Region.
