The scholarships, which were instituted in February this year, are worth One Million cedes (?1,000,000) per student per year, and is being awarded to the six students in the continuing classes to cover boarding and lodging fees, the objective being to promote academic excellence and to support financially needy students who show promise and to encourage the future participation of these students in the affairs of their alma mater.

Fifty-four (54) applications were received and evaluated on the following basis:

    ? Academic Performance
    ? Financial Need
? Writings on the following topics:
    o Future Role As Alumni
    o Future Career Goals

The students listed above, were adjudged the best amongst all the applicants although most of the other students were capable of qualifying for awards too. As a result of the limited resources at our disposal however, only six of the 54 are receiving awards. When more resources become available, it is expected that the number of recipients will increase.

Purpose of Mawuli Fund:

The Mawuli Fund (a United States based tax-exempt non-profit organization) was set up to raise at least $1 million permanent endowment capital over the next eight years from old students, corporations, other charitable organizations and the general public in the Diaspora. All contributions to the Fund will go into the permanent endowment. A parallel fund with a target amount of one billion cedes to be invested in Ghana is being set up. Over $22,000 has already been received as donations from the philanthropic community towards the endowment and in the Mawuli Fund accounts in the USA. The money is currently invested in conservative securities the interest of which will be used to support projects in Mawuli School. The scholarship scheme is just but one of the many ideas the Fund has for the future growth and development of Mawuli School.

The Fund seeks contributions from all Mawulians, Staff and friends of Mawuli School, as well as institutions and organizations interested in educational programs in Ghana. Donations can be made to the Permanent Fund or towards specific programs, e.g. scholarships, awards, special projects, etc. Contributions to the Fund in any amount or in kind, will be promptly acknowledged.
