With the confirmation and swearing-in of government appointees of most of the district assemblies, the race for the position of district chief executives has become hotter and hotter by the day.

In the Ashanti Region, like elsewhere in the country, the competition is keener as names have started doing the rounds. About 320 people are vying for the 18 seats in the region.

On the average, not less than 20 people are contesting at every district, save Kumasi and Obuasi. Chronicle can reveal that one Mr.

Kofi "Maxwell Jumah" Gyamfi, alias Kofi Ghana, a US-based NPP activist, is the automatic choice for the hottest KMA seat. At Obuasi, the NPP has settled on the second-vice constituency chairman, Mr.

Joseph Boampong, as the Chief Executive Officer of the Adansi West District. The Vice-Principal of the Offinso Training College is one of three likely to be mentioned for the Offinso district.

Mr. Samuel Enin, a journalist, is among 20 contestants for the Amansie East district.

About 26 people are said to be vying for the Kwabre district at Mamponteng. Screening of contestants is almost completed and announcement of appointments would soon be made, Chronicle gathered.
