The communication director of New Patriotic Party Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of copying some of the policies of Dr Bawumia into their manifesto.

According to him, the manifesto policies the NDC copied from the NPP included the promise to continue the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and the free tertiary education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) policy.

He explained that the NDC copied these policies because not only were they listed in the NPP manifesto first but because the flagbearer of his party mentioned them first and has also been speaking about them way before the launch of the manifestos.

He, however, admitted that the one policy the NPP may have copied from the NDC is the promise to cancel the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

“From the get-go between former president Mahama and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the one that has consistently been speaking about consolidating the Free Senior High School and ensuring that it stays is Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia. All this while, what former President Mahama has been telling us that he will do is segment the Free Senior High School Policy. That is what he’s been saying. What’s changed all of a sudden? How is he all of a sudden saying exactly what Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia is?

“... Until Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia spoke about persons with disabilities in this election, during the regional tour, did you ever hear John Mahama speak publicly within this election period? Don’t forget already there’s a pilot rollout of the free tertiary education for persons with disabilities,” he said during a panel discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on August 31, 2024.

Asked by the host of the programme whether the NPP copied the promise to scrap the E-Levy from the NDC, Miracles Aboagye retorted:

“Maybe. It is possible. Why not? It is possible. If you say it before me and I say it afterwards, it is possible. Yes, it is possible. The principle is the same.”
