Mayor of Washington arrives in Accra

Accra, May 08, GNA - The Mayor of Washington, Mr Anthony Williams, arrived in Accra on Sunday night to begin a four-day visit during which he would sign a Memorandum of Understanding on sister-cities with the Mayor of Accra, Mr Stanley Adjiri Blankson.

His wife Diana, daughter Yaa Asantewa and a 35-member delegation of political and business leaders accompanied him.

Mr Adjiri Blankson, Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister and US ambassador to Ghana, Ms Pamela Bridgewater met him on arrival. The Washington Mayor is expected to call on President John Agyekum Kufuor, address a session of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and call on Sheikh Quaye as well as Nii Adote Obuor II, Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council. He would visit the Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park and attend a durbar in his honour at Elmina where he would be installed Nkosuohene.

Mr Williams would also call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, visit Ejisu, hometown of Yaa Asantewa after whom his daughter is named and Bonwire, the home of Kente.

He departs Accra on Wednesday May 10.
