Accra, Oct 28, GNA - The media's power in provoking change and raising awareness is sometimes underestimated, Mr Alexandra Sicotte-Levesque, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Journalist for Human Rights (JHR), stated in Accra on Monday.
He said Journalists' responsibility in bringing information and concrete knowledge to the public was perhaps more important in emerging democracies than elsewhere.
Mr Sicotte-Levesque an Ivorian stated this at a press conference to introduce Journalists to Human Rights reportage in the country. He said Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire shared a similar culture but were divided by colonization and linguistic barriers.
He noted that Journalists of the two countries stood to benefit from exchange programmes and collaboration.
Mr Sicotte-Levesque urged Journalists and media institutions to break cultural and language barriers in order to further the respect for human rights.
