Builsa South District Chief Executive, Daniel Kwame Gariba, has described the medical outreach initiative of the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, as a laudable idea that would go a long way to impact the lives of rural dwellers that do not have access to good health service delivery in the country.

He said the initiative which carries medical staff to communities to offer free health screening and treatment to people would add to efforts that have been put in place by government to better the health service sector.

Speaking to Journalists during the Rebecca Foundation Screening exercise in Kanjarga Wednesday, the DCE said the initiative of the First Lady is exemplary and has brought health care delivery to the doorstep of his people.

He noted that the outreach will also help create awareness and sensitise the people on the need to live healthily. He was particularly happy that the medical health screening would afford his people the opportunity to get proper consultation on health-related issues.

Describing the medical outreach as a worthy course, Mr. Gariba hinted that the district will pick up the exercise and make it an annual event to the benefit of the people.

He: -“The first lady has shown us the way and looking at the response and how the people have received the team and are participating, it tells you that the people have been expecting something like this for a very long time. So what the district will do is to pick up and make sure it becomes an annual event. We have doctors and nurses from this district, we will talk to them and put together a very solid team and continue with what the first lady has taught us with this screening exercise”.

Nab Akanjian Akanfella, the Chief of Kanjarga thanked the First lady, DCE and the foundation for the honour done his community and appealed to them to make the event frequent.

He urged his people to seize the opportunity and go out in their numbers for the health screening. The Chief called on the team to educate the people on some good health practices and make the event frequent.

Nab Akanfella assured the DCE, the Foundation and Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Addo of his unwavering support for endeavours that will bring development and betterment in the lives of his people.

Meanwhile, it is day 3 of the Rebecca Foundation medical outreach in the Upper East Region. So far, the medical team has been to the Kasena-Nankana West, Bawku West and Builsa South Districts, where the people turned out massively to participate in the screening exercise.

In the Builsa South District, high hypertensive cases were recorded with Malaria cases flowing closely. No hepatitis cases were recorded.

Leaders of the Outreach, Dr. Agyekum-Obeng and Dr. Abdul Tawab Azumah who disclosed this to Journalists said the people detected with such cases have been counselled and given medication.

The team will be in the Nabdam District tomorrow to conclude its visit to the region.
