In December 2010, a vibrant, hardworking roofing contractor named Ellah Ametor Avumatsodo set out to earn his monthly wages.
He navigated through Accra, walking part of the way and taking public transport until he arrived at Adenta Commando, a suburb of the city.
Unbeknownst to him, that would be the last day he’d experience the ability to walk.
While roofing the second storey of a building, Ellah suffered a devastating accident, falling from a height that left him unable to walk.
This life-altering event marked the beginning of a difficult period, filled with dejection and discrimination that even led to thoughts of suicide.
But despite the hardship, Ellah made the courageous decision to rebuild his life.
With the help of a friend who also lived with a physical disability, he acquired a specially adapted vehicle equipped with an assist device—a hand-operated pedal.
With this tool, Ellah registered as a cab-hailing driver, transporting customers with the utmost care and dedication.
Today, Ellah views positivity as his most powerful weapon against life’s challenges.
His commitment to the safety and satisfaction of his passengers defines his work, turning adversity into an inspiring testament to resilience.
