The National Council for People with Disability under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has held a consultative meeting with Disability Organisations and other stakeholders to review the Disability Act.

The Ghana Federation of the Disabled has over the years expressed serious concerns on the fact that the country’s Disability Act has no provisions for children and women with a disability, humanitarian services and political participation among a host of others.

People with Disability want Act 715 to be modified to introduce provisions that clearly and comprehensively touch on the human rights of Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the country as prescribed by the UNCRPD.

The goal of the UNCPRD is to redress the social disadvantage of persons with disabilities and promote their participation in the civil, political, economic, social and cultural spheres with equal opportunities, in both developing and developed countries.

They have therefore called on government to expedite action on a review of the Act to address these among other critical issues in order to meet international standards.
