Sawla, (NR), Jan. 22, GNA - Mr. Soditey Dari, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Sawla/Kalba, has appealed to people in the constituency to bury their political differences and pool resources to help develop the area. He said it would not be in anybody's interest if they allowed politics to divide them to the neglect of the development challenges of the people who need potable water, school infrastructure and good roads to improve their living conditions.

"Our focus should be how we can together work to provide the basic needs for our people and ensure that they stay in unity to enjoy them without any ill feeling or bad blood", Mr. Dari said. Mr. Dari was addressing supporters of the NDC at separate rallies at Sawla, Kalba, Gindabuo and Sanyari to express his gratitude to the people for voting him as their member of parliament and the NDC to win power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). "Let us know that joining a political party is all about making a choice", he said. "It is therefore sad for some ethnic groups in our part of the region to be called NDC and others NPP because of the choice they had made", he said.

"Unemployment among the youth and some school children still attending classes under trees as well as women walking long distances in search of water from unsafe water sources should be our worry and concern", Mr. Dari said.

Mr. Dari told the people that poverty, ignorance, disease and conflicts as well as underdevelopment would be their lot if they continued to make political enemies of themselves. He gave the assurance that the government would not shun its responsibility of developing the area, especially the provision of good roads, health facilities, potable water services and school infrastructure.

He appealed to non-governmental organisation for assistance to enable him to complete 15 temporary school structures he is undertaking in the constituency.

Mr. Dari urged the district assembly to channel its resources to women to undertake economic ventures to help reduce poverty. Mr. Dari said cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen had destroyed food crops, water sources and the vegetation, thereby creating a desert condition in the district. They have also been involved in the raping of women and armed robbery of passengers on Wa/Kumasi/Accra bound vehicles and appealed to the government to take measures to stop them to ensure peace. 23 Jan 09
