Member of Parliament says education is his goal

Daffiama (U/W), Jan. 14, GNA - Mr. Mathias A. Puozaa, the Member of=

Parliament for Nadowli East, says he is concentrating his efforts on improving the human resource base of the area through education. Therefore, he has provided textbooks, sponsored Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) mock examinations and paid fees for needy students in the district. Mr Puozaa said he had also supported the construction of a girls' dormitory, computer laboratory and provided 20 street lamps for the Daffi= ama Senior High School.

Mr. Puozaa said this at the "Yiguori" festival of the chiefs and peo= ple of Daffiama Traditional Area in the Nadowli District. He said the Issa Youth Leadership and Skills Training Institute was=

supplied with furniture and its girls' dormitory renovated. Mr. Puozaa said there were plans to upgrade the school to a Techni= cal Institute.

He said a borehole and a community education centre had been provi= ded for Kojokpere Primary School and the Tabiasi community through allocation=

from the GETFund. GETFund supplied 200 duel desks for distribution among the Sazie and Balienaa Primary schools as well as Wogu and Fian Junior High schools. An Examination Centre has been established for students from schools at Wogu, Issa, Tabiasi and Kojokpere who used to travel many miles to Daffia= ma to write their BECE.

Mr. Puozaa appealed to the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid, to help address the electrification challenges of Bussie, Tuori a= nd Owlo to increase cottage industry activities in those communities. On health, he said he was playing a complementary role to ensure t= hat the Diffiama Health Post was upgraded to a Polyclinic while he also presented an amount of 20,000 thousand Ghana Cedis to help in the construction of a doctor's bungalow.

Mr. Puozaa called on the people to be committed to the development= of the district and not to blame the underdevelopment on politicians alone. "We should not blame only local politicians for the slow pace of development of the district," he said. 14 Jan 10
