Government officials have indicated that the Kufuor administration is ready to do every possible to find a lasting solution to the conflict, which rocked the northern sector of the country resulting in the murder of the paramount chief of the area, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II and many others.

In its press briefing on the crisis, government spokesmen have expressed the readiness of the Kufuor-led administration to bite the bullet by giving up members of the government if incriminating evidence is found against them in the ongoing investigations into the conflict.

The Special Assistant to the Information and Presidential Affairs Minister, Ferdinand Ayim said the president has never ceased warning his ministers to conduct themselves appropriately in the discharge of their duties, because any public officers who misconduct themselves will not be shielded.

“Trust in the integrity of the government to find the perpetrators of this crime,” he said, in an answer to a question as to why the government has not arrested public officials who have been accused by the Andani family of Dagbon for allegedly plotting the assassination of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani.

He said the two men who have so far been arrested are being charged for taking part in the incident and not for killing the Ya-Na.

The information ministry has also disclosed that the three chiefs comprising of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Yagbon-Wura Bawa Doshie II and the Nayiri Na Gamni Muhammadu Abdulai who have been appointed by government to mediate in the crisis have since completed a timetable within which they would work. They have since returned to their homes, he added.

Ayim further said both representatives of the Abudu and Andani gates have left Accra and have promised the people of Ghana to continue talking till an amicable solution is found to the protracted dispute.

On the state of affairs at Yendi and Tamale, Ayim said there is calm, adding that intelligence has been reinforced in all sections of the security agencies.

The government has also expressed readiness to assist in the reconstruction of the Gbewaa palace, which was vandalized during the massacre on Tuesday March 26.
