Ghana Will Opt For Peace !

A message from the National Council of Ghanaian Associations, New York

There are times in every land and nation when the people must decide the course by which they wish to proceed. Sometimes the choices are varied and confusing, leading to outcomes that are equally varied and undesirable.

Thankfully, the choices Ghanaians have to make, come August 29 when a verdict on the Election Petition is announced, are relatively simple and clear: accept the verdict and let peace be, or reject it and invite mayhem to reign.

Striped of rhetoric and high sounding posturing, the choices Ghanaians have to make could not be any simpler!

We trust that they -- especially the dueling political parties -- will choose the path of acceptance (whatever the verdict), and give peace a chance. That is the extent of our believe in the spiritual, emotional and intellectual maturity of our people. They will let the world know what we know: the assets we own as a nation far outstrip the liabilities of our collective errors and tumbles. The glue of unity and common destiny that binds us together is too strong for any element to dissolve. The million points of light that shine our path as we march unto the land of collective welfare and prosperity is too bright to be dimmed by the gloomy darkness of mistrust and hatred brought on by partisanship and factionalism.

We find these truths as self evident in the manner by which Ghanaians have conducted themselves as an indivisible nation in the past fifty and more years. There can be no shaking our belief that Ghanaians are wise and united in their determination to once more wake up the day after with the joyous cry of our national motto" Freedom and Justice" on their lips.

This is the height to which we invite all our countrymen to scale. Holding hands, let us "Lift High the Flag of Ghana" and stride assuredly into the promised land of social justice and economic prosperity during and long after the verdict is announced on August 29, 2013.

God Bless Our Homeland Ghana!

G. Ofori Anor, Executive Secretary General
