Methodist Bishop urges Ghanaians to maintain peace

The Winneba Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church, Right Reverend Dr John Buabeng-Odoom, has urged political party supporters not to engage in violence after the Supreme Court delivers judgment on the 2012 election petition.

He said the country should not be thrown into chaos and mayhem because of politics, and that, the party supporters should abide by the promises made by their leaders to accept the verdict.

Bishop Buabeng-Odoom gave the advice at the four-day Biennial Winneba Diocesan Guild Conference of the Methodist Church in Winneba, over the weekend. It was under the theme: “I am the way, witnessing to Christ mobilizing, our diverse resources for Ministry”.

The Bishop urged Ghanaians to do their best to maintain the peace being enjoyed.

Bishop Buabeng-Odoom said the Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Pentecostal Council and the Catholic Bishop Conference are holding series of meeting and peace marches to create awareness on the need for peace in the country after the Supreme Court verdict.

The Diocesan Bishop said the Methodist Church would embark on a six day fasting and prayers from 5 to 11 August, towards peace in the country and advised Guild leaders to adopt effective strategies to enhance the growth of the Methodist Church in the Winneba Diocese.

The President of the Methodist Guild of Winneba Diocese, Ebenezer Fosu-Dadzie said the members would launch a scholarship scheme during the conference to support needy but brilliant students in the Diocese.

He said plans are far advanced to purchase a 21-seater bus to propagate the evangelism drive.

Very Rev Isaac Kweku Sam, Winneba Diocesan Guild Chaplain advised the members to intensify their evangelism drive in the area to win more souls for Christ.
