Metro Mass Transport extends services to Kwahu area

Adawso-Kwahu (E/R), Aug 22, GNA - Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT), a public transportation company, has extended its services to the Kwahu area.

Seven buses would be sent to the area next month to ply some routes in the Kwahu West Municipality, Kwahu South, Kwahu East and Kwahu North (Afram Plains) districts.

The Deputy Managing Director of MMT, Mr Martin Afram, was briefing the media during a test drive from Nkawkaw to Donkorkrom that was undertaken by the Managing Director of MMT, Mr Henk Visschers, on Thursday.

Mr Afram said the extension of MMT services to the area would give employment to 60 people and would offer cheaper fares as compared to other commercial vehicles and urged the people to patronize the buses.

The Traffic Operations Manager of MMT, Mr Hastings Wilson, said the buses would ply Nkawkaw to Obo, Nkawkaw to New Abirem, Nkawkaw to Abetifi and Nkawkaw to Donkorkrom routes adding that some of the buses had already been put on Nkawkaw to Accra, Nkawkaw to Kumasi and the Nkawkaw to Koforidua routes.

He said adequate training had been organized for the drivers to ensure safety of passengers.

Mr Wilson said the MMT was now operating 851 buses in all the 10 regions of the country and had offered employment to 2,635 people. He said the number of buses would be increased to 1,063 buses by the end of the year.

The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante, said two new pontoons would be provided under the Millennium Challenge Accounts at Adawso and Ekye Amanfrom to facilitate the movement of goods and services to and from the Afram Plains.

The Kwahu North District Chief Executive, Mr Solomon Fordwo, said a number of roads in the area were being constructed to extend the services of the MMT to the rural communities and advised the people to patronize the buses.
