Krofu (CR), July 17, GNA - The Mfantseman District Assembly has declared Monday 18th - Sunday 24th July as Mutual Health Insurance Week in the District.

During the period the staff of the Assembly led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Assembly members led by the Presiding Member would move into the communities to educate the people on the importance of the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme and also help in the registration exercise.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, DCE announced this at a meeting of the Krofu Youth Association at Krofu near Mankessim at the weekend. Mr Quainoo-Arthur appealed to Youth Associations and citizens residing outside to move at weekends into the communities to sensitise the people on the need to register with the Scheme and pay their premium.

"The Health Insurance Scheme is the best method of accessing quality health care therefore every effort should be made to get the people to embrace it", the DCE said.

He said the decision to move into the communities was necessitated by the slow pace of the registration exercise.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur appealed to Chiefs and Queen mothers to throw their weight behind the exercise to enable the District to meet the August one deadline for accessing health care under the Scheme. Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, MP for Mfantseman West said two 10-seater water closets have been approved for the town and work would start soon.

The MP said a gari processing machine has also been procured for the women to add value to the cassava they produce on large scale. Mr William Quainoo, National Chairman of Krofu Youth Association said the Akwanbo Festival to be held in the third week of August would be used for communal labour to ensure the early completion projects. Nana Anthony Duker, Mpuntuhene appealed to the people to pay their development levies before the festival.

He also appealed to the government to rehabilitate roads leading to the town, which he said, were in deplorable state.
